During lunch, Liberty Tree Tavern is a la carte. They have a homemade veggie burger, that if you come at the right time, can be made without the breadcrumbs (gluten-free). It is a good burger, and I even got dairy-free mashed potatoes.

During past vacations the Backlot Express at Hollywood Studios had been our go to for counter service. With food limitations, it will still be our go to place.
At the counter I asked to see the manager. Jose came out to greet us and explained everything I could have. Basically, the entire Southwest Salad was gluten free, including the tortilla strips! Score! I just got it without the chicken. I also could have the fries, and for dessert was a chocolate chip cookie. Jose gave us a buzzer to hold on to while he went back and fixed our food. The salad was very tasty. I devoured the entire thing, and I am not a big salad fan. We went for a character breakfast one morning at Animal Kingdom's Tusker House. The chef walked me around the buffet and told me what was safe to eat. He also went back and made me a huge plate of Mickey Waffles because this was what I really wanted! I didn't take a picture of the rest of my food but it included breakfast potatoes, fruit, and some other things that I don't remember. Also, the jungle juice was very good. They also brought me a card signed by Mickey and the Gang for my birthday, along with a cupcake muffin that I couldn't eat.
For lunch one day we went to the Coral Reef restaurant at Epcot. I had made reservations here when I was still eating meat (but had since gone vegan) and unfortunately the one vegetarian dish was not able to be made gluten free, so I had to get fish. Blech. It is certainly weird eating fish, while enjoying the presence and beauty of a fish tank.
The chef at Colombia Harbour House was very flexible with making me something to eat. He combined the Garden Harvest Salad (without chicken) with a large cup of hummus. Let me say, this hummus was delicious. I put it on my salad and did not even use the dressing provided. It was very tasty. I ate the entire salad, which is pretty rare.
I was super excited to go to Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner. I had heard great things about the potato-quinoa burger. The burger did not disappoint. It was very tasty, and I would go get it again at lunch time. The thing that I was sad about was that I did not get any mashed potatoes or vegetables to go with it. I was quite bummed out that everyone else got to enjoy these. I did get some gluten free rolls, though.
We went to Mama Melrose for an early dinner one day so we could get preferential seating for Hollywood Studio's Fantasmic. I started out with the Mixed Greens Salad, with dried cherry vinaigrette and fresh pear. Lucky for me they had gluten-free pizza crust, so I got a vegetable pizza, sans cheese. It was ok, but nothing terribly exciting. Fantasmic was awesome, even though it was about to storm, and special seating was not very special at all. Oh well.
This place was a gem. Located in Downtown Disney, the building is a big pineapple.
The food was yummy and the atmosphere was fun. I would come here again. We went in the early evening so there was no live music, but I think at night there is, and there is a dance floor as well. My new favorite hotel, and I haven't even stayed there yet. We went to visit, and I was immediately enamored. The walls in the lobby were all drawings of Cars, Little Mermaid, Nemo, and Lion King. It was such a fun atmosphere. The food court is amazing. The chef was really nice. He pretty much asked what we wanted, regardless of whether it was on the menu, and made it for us. He even had gluten free bread that he made into garlic toast for me! I was in the mood for pasta, so that is what he made for me. Nathan got a special stir fry that was not on the menu. The other time that we went for lunch, I got a veggie/bean burger with fries. Pretty tasty!
The second night at Disney I had dinner at Tutto Italia in Epcot. Again, the chef came out to discuss what I could have. Pickings were a bit sparse because of the meat and dairy, but I was super satisfied with what I had.
Gluten free pasta with the marinara sauce and a side of green beans. Let me tell you, the pasta sauce was probably the best I have ever tasted. EVER. I could probably subsist on eating this and only this for a very long time. It was that good. |
