Have you heard about the soon-to-open Capital Wheel at National Harbor in Maryland? When I first heard about the development of the wheel for the DC area, I was very excited. I thought back to how much I enjoyed the London Eye and the amazing views that you could see from the top.

My sweet puppy turned 3 on February 1! We started out the day with lots of snuggling, and then we went out for a run Bella came over to hang out for the day, and I prepared for the evening's festivities. Allison and Marty came over for burgers, fries, veggies, and chocolate cake. The pupsters had rice, green beans, fries, and bananas, as well as some treats.
Last night after work, I joined my family downtown DC to go see the National Christmas Tree. We parked on the street near the museums, and started to walk. We took a quick stop in the American History Museum to see the Star-Spangled Banner, and then headed towards the tree. It got a bit crowded as we were looking at the state trees, but we still had a chance to enjoy the ornaments.
All-in-all, we walked 2.3 miles. The weather was not too cold, and it was a fun and festive evening out in our nation's capital. This past week we had 2 snow days! It started Sunday afternoon with some snow, and then turned into sleet. We had Tuesday off from school as well because it was super icy, and more snow was coming. We were supposed to get up to 5 inches, but we barely got two. Most of the snow just froze and then iced over.
Wednesday we had a delayed opening, but were then back at work. This snow was definitely not the fluffy stuff that you want to build snowmen with :( But Maestro certainly enjoyed running around and eating it! Each year, Virginia has a state-wide conference for music teachers. This year, the event was held at the Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. Driving the 3.5 hours, we traveled past a lot of cows and run down towns. We drove over a mountain and through the woods, and then we arrived at this glorious building. Dinner each night was a buffet. The first night, the only thing I could eat from it was this most delicious tomato and basil soup. I must have had about 4 bowls of this soup. The chef also made me a special dish of quinoa and vegetables. It was pretty tasty, but not a lot of food and I was still hungry! The second night, I received the same entree. Not a big deal because I was happy to have something to eat, but again, I was still hungry. While not schmoozing or attending a few sessions, I went on a hike around the property, and headed to the horse stables. Luckily, the horses were out, and very friendly. I spent a lot of time hanging out and snuggling with the horses!
Saturday night was the Trunk-or-Treat at Madre's church. She was in charge of the event and did a good job planning everything. There was a chili dinner (I brought lentil chili - which was tasty - corn muffins, and banana bread), carnival-type games where you won tickets to be exchanged for prizes, "hay rides", costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, and Trunk-or-Treat.
